Being in the labor and birthing room is one of the greatest honors I can think of. It is sacred and intimate and emotional and beautiful. Along with my own thoughts and images from Beau's birth, I'll be sharing mama Sarah's experience in her own words, because who could tell about it better than the one who birthed him?
To begin this story, we must pay respect to Beau's grandma, Sarah's mother. Due to complications from Covid, Sarah's mom passed away September 6, 2021. Soon after, Sarah's step-dad also passed away.
"But your sorrow shall be turned into joy" (John 16:20).
On the exact one-year anniversary of Sarah's mom's death, baby Beau presented himself to the world, bringing light and joy to his family! I don't think I'll ever be convinced that his birthdate was a coincidence. It's just so meaningful and special!
And now, I'll hand over the story-telling to Sarah...
"Beau was born on September 6th, 2022. A day I will never forget, thanks to Laura! We had the privilege of having Laura document the birth of our second son. It was so hard to find a photographer to invite into such an intimate moment, but after talking with Laura I knew she was going to be the perfect fit and I was right!
I decided to have an unmedicated labor and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I labored long and somewhat patiently for 21 hours and almost gave up after they told me I was still at 8cm and he was sunny-side up.
I knew I couldn’t take much longer and decided to get an epidural.
I don’t know how long it took them to wheel me to labor and delivery but by the time I got there, Beau decided he was ready to come. After about 20 minutes of pushing, he was in my arms. All the pain had disappeared and was replaced with pure bliss!
From time to time I look back at the beautiful photos Laura took and it takes me right back to that moment. I will cherish these photos forever! Thank you Laura!"
